The Nobel Prize, founded in 1901, is named after Alfred Bernhard Nobel (1833.10.21--1896.12.10), who is the famous Swedish chemist and nitroglycerine explosive inventor. Nobel was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1833, he devoted his life to explosives research and had made significant achievements. He had 355 patented technology inventions and opened about 100 companies and factories in 20 countries, accumulating huge wealth.
Nobel was shocked and sorry for his invention being used for sabotage. On December 10, 1896, Nobel died in Italy. In the year before his death, he left his testament to make part of his estate as a fund, of which the interest was divided into 5 awards of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace for awarding people that make significant contribution for mankind in these fields all over the world.
In June 1900, the Swedish government approved the establishment of Nobel Foundation, the Swedish Parliament passed the Constitution for Issuing Nobel Prize and firstly issued the Nobel Prize on the fifth anniversary of the death of Nobel in the next year, that is, December 10, 1901. Since then, except the interruption of wartime, a grand victory ceremony has been held on that date every year alternatively in Swedish capital Stockholm and Norwegian capital Oslo.
